Shortbread cookies are among my favorite types of cookies. Sweet but not too sweet, a great base for all kinds of flavor ideas, and rather simple. This summer I was growing Lemon Verbena in my backyard (until I killed it despite assurances that it is un-killable, but that’s another story), and I also attended a local Lavender festival which offered some inspiration for this post. This past Sunday I went to my local farmers market and made a beeline for “the peach guy.” I was happy to discover that not only were peaches available, but so were nectarines. They always have samples of the varieties on sale that day, and I discovered a White Nectarine that was the most delicious thing I have tasted in recent memory. Never in my life have I had such a juicy, delicious nectarine. I bought a bagful, along with a bounty of other fruits and veggies, and headed home to indulge. Continue reading

Cold winter weekends have, if nothing else, provided the opportunity to hibernate in the house, bake, and binge on Netflix. One of my favorite fruits is the pear, so while it’s in season I happily include it in my lunch as often as possible. It was a no-brainer, then, when I came across a Pear Cake recipe. Continue reading
This month, I have to admit our Marshmallow recipe is simple. With a lot of winter lethargy and little time to come up with anything more creative, I hope you will still enjoy this suggestion as another way to enjoy your Sweet Jumbles marshmallows. Continue reading
While Christmas and Thanksgiving are behind us, there is still plenty of time this long winter to enjoy some cozy seasonal foods. Although I’ve never actually made a Sweet Potato Pie, I suspect that these tarts are a good cousin to that traditional dessert.
